Manual
1. Introduction
The FleetPulseGO Solar Telematics Gateway is a solar energy harvesting cellular and GPS tracking device. It provides location updates every 10 minutes while in motion and every 12 hours when stationary.
The GO Solar large trailer cradle is designed to be mounted on top of the trailer and has a ramp on each side of the device to protect the device from seasonally used snow-scrapers. The GO Solar small cradle is designed to be mounted on smaller surface areas like flatbed bulkheads or exterior container walls.
GO Solar fits into the cradle with the flanges engaging with the notches inside. Insert the connector side flange first at an angle and then pivot the device down into the cradle into the position. Flip the latch over to secure the device and use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to lock the device in place. Both cradles have 3M VHB tape on its base for securing the cradle to the surface in addition to screw holes to be used with best practice fasteners.

2.2. Cradle
The cradle comes with strips of 3M 5692 VHB tape for easy peel and stick mounting. Adhering to the best practices for installing the cradle will ensure the quality of the bond strength between the cradle and the trailer. Refer to the latest official 3M VHB documentation for best practices for bonding and surface preparation.

IMPORTANT NOTE
-
Before the device can transmit updates to the platform:
- It must establish a GPS fix and connect to a cellular network.
- Signal acquisition is highly dependent on the device’s location and the strength of GPS and cellular signals in the area.
- If your device does not report immediately, do not panic.
-
If the status LEDs do not illuminate when the button is pressed:
- The internal battery may be dead.
- Position the device with its solar panel facing direct sunlight and allow it to charge for several hours before attempting activation again.
- Contact support@fleetpulse.com if you have further questions.

4. Mounting Guidelines
4.1. Prepare Surface for Adhesion
Clean the surface according to the recommendations in the VHB Surface preparation guide. A 50:50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water are good to use for most cases but check the surface preparation guide for the surface material. Also, primers may need to be applied to increase adhesive strength depending on the surface material. Ensure the surfaces are dry and free of condensed moisture before mounting the cradle.
4.2. Apply Cradle to Surface
Apply the cradle to the clean asset surface. Make sure that contaminants are not introduced from the installer’s tools or hands and that the tape surface is clean after peeling off the protective film. Flat, smooth surfaces are ideal for strong bonds. 3M recommends that the tape be installed at an ambient temperature of 70°F to 100°F (21°C to 38°C). Also, 3M recommends applying enough pressure for the tape to experience 15 Psi (100 KPa). The surface area of the trailer cradle is 40 square inches.
If the trailer cradle is installed on the top of the trailer and snow scrapers will be used, ensure that the cradle is mounted in such a way that it meets the latch end first. If needed, the connector side first is the second-best option for placement.
Align the cradle with the roadside edge of the roof. Position the cradle place such that at least two of the fastener holes do not overlap any roof rivets.
4.3. Allow Cradle to Cure
Allow the tape to cure before subjecting the cradle to physical or environmental stresses. Typically, a cure time of 24 hours at room temperature will be enough for a 90% cure. A thorough cure will take a minimum of 72 hours. When the cure time is done, the cradle is ready for use in the field.
4.4. Device Mounting Guidelines
The FleetPulseGO device leverages solar energy to replenish the charge of its battery. Please consider the device mounting guidelines to maximize device solar charging. Also, the FleetPulseGO device uses cellular and GPS technologies whose signal reception quality is dependent on mounting location and style.
Adhering to these guidelines will optimize the field performance of the FleetPulseGO device:
- If possible, have the solar panel facing directly towards the noon sun. At least have the solar panel no greater than 90° away from the noon sun. (see illustration below)
- Avoid mounting the FleetPulseGO device where shadows may cast upon the solar panel.
- Avoid placing the unit inside a container made from any conductive materials or partially mounted into a bracket made from any conductive materials. Doing so may potentially degrade GPS and cellular reception.
- Avoid mounting the FleetPulseGO device in low locations where dirt, grease, or any other staining particles can be introduced by rotating wheels. Excess dirt, grease, or staining materials on the solar panel will reduce the amount of charge the device can receive.
- Avoid mounting the FleetPulseGO device to locations that are high risk to predictable physical harm. (see illustration below)
4.5. Apply Screws to Cradle
Two #10, 1-inch self-tapping and self-drilling screws are required. Align the cradle with the roadside edge of the roof. Position the cradle place such that at least two of the fastener holes do not overlap any roof rivets. Do not over tighten; plastic may crack. Seal the heads of the fasteners after installation using Manus 75AM sealant or an equivalent.

4.6. Device Wakeup
Boot up the device by simply holding the Wake-Up Button located near the circular connector on the side panel of the device for 3-5 seconds. You should see the blue “C” LED light up and then fade out. The blue LED will blink when the device is successfully connected to the network.

6. Product Maintenance
FleetPulse recommends performing the following maintenance actions at least once every 12 months:
-
Data quality check:
- All expected sensors should be reporting on the Diagnostics page within the FleetPulse app.
- Connectivity Status should be green and report Good.
- If any sensors are not reporting, please reach out to support@fleetpulse.com for troubleshooting help.
-
Gateway Inspection:
- Confirm GO Solar Gateway is securely fasten with the GO Solar cradle and locking screw is tight.
- Confirm the GO Solar cradle bracket, either the large or small le, securely fastened to its surface.
- GO Solar has a solar panel integrated into the device and will need to be cleaned to ensure the solar panel will function effectively. It is recommended to use 50/50 99% isopropyl alcohol and a clean rag to clean the solar panel surface.
-
If the device is not reporting and its condition is good and has a clean solar panel surface facing sunlight for at least four consecutive hours:
- Remove the device from the cradle.
- Press and hold the wake-up button until the solid green LED illuminates.
- Rest the device and orient the solar panel sunward for at least one hour.
- Login to the FleetPulse App and verify the accuracy of the reporting data.
- If the device is still not reporting, contact support@fleetpulse.com
7. Device Unpairing
