3. Cellular Antenna Installation
The following steps walk through how to install the CargoView Antenna. This step must be performed before installing the CargoView Gateway, Solar Power Harness, and Solar Panel.
NOTE: If installed on a wood wall, a 2-inch hole needs to be drilled into the wood on the inside of the trailer before drilling the pilot hole.
- Drill a ¼ inch (6 mm) pilot hole in the trailer driver side wall 3.5 to 4 inches (9 to 10 cm) below the rivet line 2 inches (5cm) above where the cargo sensor will be mounted and 12 inches (23 cm) over from the end of the trailer. For a quicker install, use a 2-inch hole saw with a built in 1/4-inch pilot drill bit.
- Use a stepper/hole saw bit to bring the hole out to ¾ inch (19 mm). Drill from the outside to leverage and to easily view the rivet line.
- Prep the surface for VHB by roughing the area up with #000 steel wool or similar, cleaning with Isopropyl alcohol (IPA 99%), and wiping with a clean shop rag.
- Guide the cable harness into the drilled hole.
- Remove the VHB tape cover and orient the antenna with the slanted side facing the sky, indicator arrow pointed up.
- Press firmly on the antenna to affix to the side of the trailer for 30 seconds and install the nylon hex nut on the inside.

4. CargoView Gateway Installation – Dry Van
CAUTION: DO NOT use a level. The cradle must be square to the trailer and NOT level relative to gravity; this will offset the angle of the sensors to the trailer.
- Clean the surface of the trailer with isopropyl alcohol (IPA 99%) and shop rag. If the surface is excessively dirty, use #000 steel wool or similar to rough the surface for VHB mounting.
- Place the cradle in mounting position approximately 5 inches (12 cm) down and 5 inches (12 cm) over from roll-up door track or the L-box.
NOTE: Gateway Cradle position further down and over will neglect camera image of total trailer interior. The end customer should be consulted on position pending trailer design and impending structures.
- Mark the edges of the cradle in the mounting position with a sharpie for VHB tape mounting later.
- Ensure the temperature of the surface where the CargoView Gateway is being installed is at least 50°F (10°C) by using an IR gun and a hand torch (if needed to raise the surface temperature). The ideal temperature is 70 to 100°F (21 to 38°C).
- Composite Wall: Peel the VHB and install the cradle square to the wall of the trailer.
- Wood Wall: Use #10 by 3/4-inch pan head screws to install the cradle. VHB is not sufficient to secure the cradle to wood walls.
-
Perform the following steps for installing the CargoView Tail Light Power T-Harness.
- Remove the left side or top taillight (closest to the device) to fish the wire. This step is necessary to connect to the T-cable end.
- If an accessible conduit or cavity channel isn't available, mark a drill point about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) below the rolling track.
- Drill a ¼ inch (6 mm) pilot hole, then step out to ½ inch (13 mm).
-
Push CargoView Solar Power Harness end for Taillight T-Harness through the hole and fish at the bottom of the trailer.
- Disconnect the tail lamp, install Tail Light T-Harness, then connect CargoView Solar Power Harness. Ensure to turn tail lights on, test power and ground, and proper voltage (12V) going to CargoView Gateway power plug pin, CON1 port.

QUALITY CHECK 1: Commissioning CargoView Gateway on Xirgo app tests connection quality of sensors installed. If tests fail or if the installer wants to quality test the pins on the CON1 port and Gateway Solar Power Harness connector, it is advised to use a multi-meter and thin pins to test pin 1 and 2 for tail light power, and pin 7 and 8 for solar power.
-
Perform the following steps to install the CargoView Gateway into the cradle.
- Remove the cable protection flap using a Philips #2 screwdriver on the back of the gateway to install wiring.
- Slide the gateway device into the cradle and install the six included screws to complete mounting within the cradle.
-
Lock the CON 1 connector using the built-in twist lock on the CargoView Solar Power Harness that connects to cargo sensor main unit. Ensure the white dots are aligned. If the CargoView Solar Power Harness has a push lock for the CON1 port, push and align both connectors until locked.
QUALITY CHECK 2: A pull test is advised to ensure CON1 port connection. Gently tug on the cable to check it's not loosely connected. This connector will come loose by vibration from trailer operation if not checked.
-
Attach the Antenna wires as shown in the photo below using a 5/16” wrench. Do not over tighten as the antenna alloy is sensitive for cellular connectivity.
QUALITY CHECK 3: If antenna wires are not installed in correct location, the GPS location signal will read 0 degrees longitude and 0 degrees latitude. Ensure connections match via color: Yellow BT/Wi-Fi = BT/WI; Red LTE = CELL, and Blue GPS = GPS.
- Re-apply the back panel of the CargoView Gateway and secure with a Phillips #2 screwdriver. Apply pressure to the back and top of the flap by pressing with one hand to ensure the threading of the screws properly tighten inside of the device.
- Use a small flat head screwdriver to guide the connected grommet into the hole drilled into the L-Box if needed. If necessary, drill a slightly larger hole than the recommended 1/2 inch until the grommet fits tightly.
-
Secure the cabling using VHB wire tie holders.
NOTE: The extra loose cable should be bunched and zip-tied to the ring on the left side of the device. Use VHB wire tie holder to keep any loose harness from getting caught in the door.

8. CargoView Gateway Installation – Reefer
NOTE: Reefer trailers have insulated walls, roofs, and, in some cases, foam-filled corner rear channels. Understand where and how mounting the CargoView system does not damage the designed trailer components. Also, understand the location of interior wall posts and roof bows for easy installation.

Drawing example of reefer trailer with CargoView installation.
CAUTION: Before drilling any hole in the trailer, determine which way the wires run from the control panel. This can be done by removing the control panel and visually checking which direction they go.

- From the back end of the trailer, measure 13.8” towards the front of the trailer, and 7.5” down from the rivet strap.
- From the outside, drill a 1/4" pilot hole (make sure the drill bit is long enough to pass through the insulation and panel on the inside of the trailer).
- From the inside, use the 4" hole saw to drill out the inside panel and insulation being careful not to go through the outside panel.
- Using a chisel clean out the inside of the hole so the PVC insert will slide in easily.
- From the inside, using a 3/4" hole saw drill out for the antenna.
- From the outside, use a de-burring tool to clean up the edges around the hole. Prep the surface for VHB by roughing the area up with #000 steel wool or similar, cleaning with Isopropyl alcohol (IPA 99%) and wiping with a clean shop rag.
- Remove the VHB tape cover and orient the antenna with the slanted side facing the sky. Press firmly on the antenna to affix to the side of the trailer (30 seconds) and install the hex nut on the inside.

- Install the nut to the antenna on the inside of the trailer and fasten to seal the air gap. Place a fitted PVC sleeve in the hole. Drill a hole in the center of the cap with a 1/2" bit and route the antenna cable through it and attach the cap to the sleeve. Use small pieces of the insulation you cut out and place it around the sleeve to secure it and keep it level, then carefully caulk around the outside sleeve and the center hole.
- Follow steps in Section 6.
9. CargoView Solar Panel Installation
- The solar panel hole should not be more than 40" (1 meter) from the back of the CargoView Gateway and 12" (30 cm) from roadside wall.
- Use a hole saw/stepper bit to drill a 3/4th inch (19 mm) hole.
- De-burr the drilled hole from the outside to clean the edge and remove sharp edges from the hole.
- Remove the stainless-steel lock washer and hex nut on the CargoView Solar Panel harness.
- Clean the surface of the trailer roof using Isopropyl alcohol (IPA 99%) and #000 steel wool or similar to rough the surface for VHB mounting. Wipe excess with a shop rag.
- Ensure the temperature of the surface where the solar panel is being installed is at least 50°F (10°C) by using an IR gun and a hand torch (if needed to raise the surface temperature). The ideal temperature is 70 to 100°F (21 to 38°C).
- Remove VHB tape strips from the sides and center of the bottom side of the solar panel and route the cable through the drilled hole. Avoid touching the exposed VHB tape. The solar panel should be installed parallel to the trailer roof edge. Guide the threaded connector carefully through the drilled hole.
- Press firmly on the outside edges and center of the solar panel housing to ensure the VHB tape adheres to the trailer roof (30 seconds).
- Apply the stainless-steel lock washer and hex nut to the threaded connector inside the trailer and fasten to seal the air gap.
NOTE: Reefer trailer ceilings are foam thick insulated or have a channel that may have a composite sliding cover. An extra-long ¾" drill is needed to create access between roof and interior. Depending on the type of trailer, installers may not have access to install the lock washer and nut. Ensuring the strong bond of the VHB tap on the solar panel and roof, caulking around the panel and inside the hole from the inside will prevent water leakage.
- Drill p-clamps into the horizontal roof bow using 1/2-inch self-tapping screws and install the cabling along the trailer ceiling and roadside wall to connect with the CargoView Solar Power Harness. For reefer trailers, use adhesive clips for zip ties and custom fasteners.
10. Wireless Door Sensor Installation
NOTE: The door sensor is installed in a location where it can communicate with the CargoView via Bluetooth.
- Push the door sensor button for 2 seconds and then release. The LED will start to blink. Push and hold the button for 6 LED blinks and the LED will go off to indicate a successful activation and ready for commissioning.
CAUTION: If the LED does not turn on, please don't install. The device may need to be charged. Connect the Solar Panel and situate the device and solar panel in an area with clear view of the sky/sun. Contact support@fleetpulse.com for replacement.
